Writing

Gabrielle Grace Hogan (she/her) recently received her MFA from the University of Texas at Austin, through the New Writers Project. Her poetry has been published by or is forthcoming in TriQuarterly, CutBank, Salt Hill, The Los Angeles Review, Grist, Poetry Northwest, Foglifter, and others. She is the author of two chapbooks, Love Me With the Fierce Horse of Your Heart (Ursus Americanus 2023) and Soft Obliteration (Ghost City Press 2020). In the recent past she has served as the Poetry Editor of Bat City Review, and as the Co-Editor/Co-Creator of You Flower / You Feast, a digital anthology of work inspired by Harry Styles. She has been nominated for Best of the Net multiple times, as well as for a Pushcart Prize, and was longlisted for Foundling Press’ Ralph Angel Poetry Prize, and finalist for Host Publications’ Chapbook Prize. She is currently pursuing publication for her first manuscript of poetry, Guilt Factory.

Hogan’s work is most concerned with loneliness, love, sex, nostalgia, and grief as they are experienced through a lesbian/queer lens. During her time at Ragdale, she will be working on her second manuscript of poetry, in which she utilizes the traditional structure of the screenplay to facilitate communication between two characters: Loverboy, the pathetic lovelorn speaker, and the stage directions, who act as omnipotent chastising narrator. The manuscript hopes to investigate questions of isolation, loneliness, and the performative natures of sex, gender, and personal identity, specifically as they are experienced by lesbians cultured in a cisheteropatriarchal society.

Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, she now lives in Austin, Texas.
