Christola Phoenix was born, bred, roasted and toasted in Harlem, New York. She is a life time resident of the Harlem Community. She is presently writing her memoir, "Paper Curls and Peanut Earrings," set against the backdrop of Harlem in the 1950s, '60s, and '70s. She is a 2020 NYFA Fellow Artist in Nonfiction Literature. She was awarded the 2017 Bread Loaf Katharine Bakeless Nason Scholar in Nonfiction. Her writing has been support by fellowships from Bread Loaf Writers Conference, Hedgebrook and Millay Arts. An excerpt from her memoir, "The Lotto Line," was published by Roxane Gay's Emerging Writers - The Audacity. She's a GG (great-grandmother). She dance in her living room like no one is watching to the R&B music of the 1960s and 70s played on WBGO Radio.
