Visual Art

Marina Kassianidou’s practice combines painting, drawing, collage, artist’s books, and site-responsive installation. She focuses on processes of responsive marking, where her marks respond to features of the surface/space being marked. She approaches the act of marking as a way of relating to her surroundings.

Marina was born and raised in Limassol, Cyprus, and lives and works between Limassol and Boulder, Colorado. She has a B.A. in Studio Art from Stanford University, an M.A. in Fine Art from Central Saint Martins College of Art and Design, and a Ph.D. in Fine Art from Chelsea College of Arts, London, UK. She has exhibited her work internationally. She has been awarded fellowships at the Virginia Center for Creative Arts, Hambidge Center for Creative Arts and Sciences, Ragdale Foundation, Residencia Internacional de Arte Can Serrat, Ox-Bow, and The Studios at MASS MoCA among others. She is a recipient of the 2016 Joan Mitchell Foundation Painters and Sculptors Grant.
