Krista Tippett is a Peabody-award winning broadcaster, National Humanities Medalist, and New York Times bestselling author. She created and hosts On Being, a podcast which originated on public radio and has been downloaded/played over 400 million times. Krista’s conversations — at the intersection of spiritual inquiry and science, social creativity and the arts — take up the ancient, animating questions of humanity as they are newly resonant amidst 21st century realities: What does it mean to be human, how do we want to live, and who will we be to each other? The On Being show has won the highest honors in broadcast, Internet and podcasting and has been recognized as a “best podcast” in many places, including The New York Times, The Atlantic, The Guardian, The Wall Street Journal, and iheart radio.
Krista created her show inside a legacy media organization. In 2013, she founded The On Being Project to take it into independent production, and to serve the impact her conversations were having in far-flung lives and communities. Today the On Being Project is evolving to meet the callings of the post-2020 world. On Being Studios produces a second successful podcast, Poetry Unbound. Emergent in 2023 is the Lab for the Art of Living, alongside gatherings and “quiet conversations” to accompany the generative people and possibilities within this tender, tumultuous time to be alive.
Krista grew up in a small town in Oklahoma, attended Brown University, worked as a young journalist and diplomat in Cold War Berlin, and later received a Master of Divinity from Yale. She was awarded a National Humanities Medal from President Obama at the White House in 2014 for “thoughtfully delving into the mysteries of human existence.” Among recent honors, she has received a Four Freedoms medal from the Roosevelt Institute and served as a Distinguished Visitor at Stanford’s Haas Center for Public Service. Her honorary doctorates include Yale University and Middlebury College. Her most recent book is Becoming Wise: An Inquiry into the Mystery and Art of Living.
