Christine Koubek’s stories have appeared in The Washington Post; Poets & Writers; Brain, Child; Washingtonian and Chautauqua among many others. Her work has received residency support from the Ragdale Foundation and Virginia Center for the Creative Arts, and an Eckerd College Writer’s Conference fellowship.
She was awarded a 2021 Elizabeth George Foundation grant for her first novel (in-progress). The novel’s genesis was an essay she wrote about the impact of being found by her birth mother, which won an American Society of Journalists and Author’s Arlene Award for "Work that Makes a Difference.” She’ll be working toward its completion at Ragdale. The story illuminates a history shared by more than two million American girls who were sent to hide in homes for unwed mothers in the decades before Roe v. Wade—and the sons and daughters whose lives they haunted. Christine holds an MFA in Creative Writing from Fairfield University and has enjoyed teaching with The Writer’s Center, Bethesda, Maryland; Muse Writers, Norfolk; and the Armed Services Arts Partnership.
